Enjoying Stumbling

November 25th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I installed StumbleUpon a little while ago to help increase traffic to GreenDealsDaily (and it worked) - but I hadn’t used it for randomly finding good sites (its intended purpose).  Well I gave it a try recently and it’s actually a pretty fun time waster.  You should give it a try especially if you’re starting to get bored with your RSS feeds / bookmarks.

Top 5 Ways to Convince People who Don’t Give a Damn about the Environment

November 16th, 2007 · No Comments

You’ve made many small changes in your life for the greater good right? You recycle and use CFLs, maybe you buy organic food or clothing - in short, you give a damn, but do your friends, family, co-workers and roomates? Chances are at least some of them don’t.

Abdominal is great

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

release_dr024.jpg

Emily hates rap, especially Canadian rap - but I like it and she is wrong :)

Anyway, Abdominal is great and he raps about Toronto sometimes which makes me nostalgic.  Just about every track on Escape from the Pigeon Hole is super-catchy but not in an ear-worm kind of way.  My favorite tracks include: Breathe Later, T. Ode, Radio Friendly, Pedal Pusher, Big Track and Walk Left / Stand Right.

Click here for more tracks at CBC Radio 3.

GreenDeals Daily Breaks into the Alexa top 100,000 sites

November 11th, 2007 · No Comments

I’m really more excited about this than I should be given that most people consider Alexa to be pretty irrelevant.  None the less, GreenDeals Daily ranked among the 89,589th most popular sites on the internet yesterday and I think that’s kinda neat.  Once you’re in the top 100,000 they track your rank on a little graph (but more importantly some advertising programs pay you, or allow you to join, based in part on your Alexa rank).  Want to help my little graph go up? (that sounds somewhat dirtier than I intended)  Add the Alexa Toolbar to your browser.

A bunch of Louisiana photos

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

I just uploaded a whole lotta photos to my Flickr account, here are the highlights (click for a bigger version):

First up, my lovely bride working hard in the studio.

Here are some shots from the September Critical Mass (note the dude with the crazy dog platform on the back of his bike)

IMG_4704.JPG

IMG_4695.JPG

IMG_4716.JPG

I took a bike ride on which I saw the Mississippi…

IMG_4790.JPG

…and a cactus.

IMG_4770.JPG

I made some okra with olive oil and Tony’s (universal southern seasoning) - it was really good cooked under the broiler for a few minutes. Emily disagreed.

IMG_4755.JPG

Mysterious smoke cloud.

Emily atop the Baton Rouge levy sign (just like Hollywood!)

IMG_4731.JPG

Baton Rouge has a weekly outdoor farmer’s market (year-round!)

IMG_4723.JPG

This week I got some arugula, sweet potatoes, peppers and local satsumas!

IMG_4728.JPG

Kittens!

IMG_4718.JPG

The bridge across the Mississippi - grabbed this on a sunset bike ride along the levy.

IMG_4809.JPG

Emily’s latest work, I call it the exploding kayak - not sure what she calls it.

IMG_4847.JPG

Band practice at the local highschool (they take this stuff seriously here).

IMG_4849.JPG

Emily at the White House.

IMG_4883.JPG

I finally made it to the Angola Prison Rodeo but this is the only photograph I got, no cameras allowed. Unfortunately they were sold out so all I could do was look at the crafts for sale (made by inmates) and eat carnival food (I had a pig’s tail!). Very weird experience.

IMG_4907.JPG

Satsumas growing in somone’s yard - it’s really neat to see stuff like lemons and bananas growing on our street.

IMG_4912.JPG

Here’s my jack-o-lantern:

IMG_4916.JPG

He blew his brains out (don’t read too much into this).

IMG_4937.JPG

They were throwing out the lane dividers at the pool - I almost brought them home but I don’t know what I’d do with them.

IMG_4939.JPG

Finally, this is the beer I bought at Wal-mart today. I couldn’t resist - it’s special edition hunting beer in bright orange cans so your drinking buddies don’t shoot you! So awesome - and did I mention it was just $10 for this two-four? God bless America.

TLA Lauches Private Beta of CPC Shopping Ads

November 1st, 2007 · 1 Comment

I just received an email from Patrick Gavin, President of ReviewMe, Text-Link-Ads and Auction Ads, inviting me to be part of the beta for their latest CPC product: Shopping Ads. Part of me wonders if this is in response to the war Google has begun to rage against paid links but I’m sure they’ve had this in the pipeline for some time. I’ve installed code at GreenDeals Daily and my first impressions are quite good. The way it works is very similar to Auction Ads where you define keywords which determine what products will be displayed on your site. I’m excited to see how well this type of advertising converts, apparently early testers have been earning around $0.25 per click. Here’s a sample unit with the words “organic; energy saving; environment” :
